Elk / The Whiteriver Herd is the Worlds largest Wapiti Herd. The ColoradoDivision of Wildlife (DOW) provides Archery, Muzzle Loading and four Rifleseasons to take your Trophy. Bull Tags are over the counter purchaseand Cows are under a State Draw system.
Mule Deer / Many Trophy Class Mule Deer are taken in the immediate area each season. During a morning walk on the contiguous BLM Land this Spring, we counted 82 Mulley’s in about three hours. DOW provides an Archery, Muzzle Loading and four Rifle seasons to take your Trophy. Deer Tags are under a
Mountain Lion / The DOW estimates the States population at somewhere upward of 8,000 with heavy concentrations in the Grand Hog Back Mountain Range which runs through the area.
Black Bear / Good size population of Hunt able numbers walk the area and are frequently taken in the Fall while hunting Deer & Elk. Tags are over the Counter with a Deer or Elk Tag as long as they last.
Walk out your backdoor on to thousands of acres of BLM Lands tothe west. There is only private land access along the Gilmore side of the BLM. Public access is miles to the north and west which limits the number of hunters you may encounter during your hunt.
The Whiteriver National Forest is made up of 100’s of Thousands of acres for Public Hunting and Recreation. It is so close you can ride your ATV, Snowmobile Horse or Walk to the entry and fully explore the National Forest.
Harvey Gap is know for its’ Pike fishing. Ever caught a Pike on Fly Rod? Try it; you’ll love it.
Rifle Gap has good fishing for Browns, Bows and some Lakers along with a few Walleye and other species.. The Rifle Area Chamber of Commerce holds an Annual Ice Fishing Derby every February. All the Ole Fishermen swear there is aColorado State Record Yellow Perch swimming in those waters.
